Today as I was shopping in the supermarket, I noticed the young cashier had a name tag saying Aubrey, not Audrey. It brought back memories of the company called Aubrey Organics in the nineties. I told the young woman that before she was born, this company produced one of the first natural body care lines. I owned a health food store in New England and I would order the $100 minimum wholesale amount on a Monday morning, so that the products would arrive by Friday from hot Tampa, Florida. There were no synthetic preservatives in the coconut-based products and I didn’t want them to get heated up in the mail over a long weekend.
My favorite product was the chemical-free sunscreen. There was a choice of SPF 4, 8, and 15, which was thought to be high enough in those days. I would use the 8 or 15 all year-round depending on sun intensity, even if I wasn’t outdoors because they were perfect light-weight moisturizers. They had a slight apple-like fragrance. Later on, an SPF 30 became available.
Aubrey Organics manufactured a variety of shampoos, conditioners, and soaps. For me personally, some of the products were too heavily scented, but others I quite thoroughly enjoyed, such as the Rosa Mosqueta hair and skin products. I believe this company was most certainly in the forefront of what would later become mainstream and mass-marketed: organics for hair and body care.
Does anyone else in at least their sixties remember this company that was quite popular for at least a decade, maybe two? Please give me feedback about any good companies currently manufacturing natural body care products on a smaller scale.
A couple days ago, when at my local farmers market, I met a woman selling very nicely packaged body care products. The company is named Ancient Aura, and the Founder and Owner is Ananya Gupta PhD. She explained to me that all products were formulated after she personally was having skin and hair issues from using mainstream products. All her products are handmade using herbal and natural ingredients based on ancient formulas.
I am looking forward to trying her Pure Botanical Shampoo and Hibiscus Flaxseed Conditioner to repair damaged hair and reduce frizz. Also, I can hardly wait to try the Herbal Exfoliating Body Bar, and the Sun Veil Sunscreen which is a hydrating cream containing non-nano zinc oxide.
In addition, Ms. Gupta’s company sells 12-Herb Hair Growth Oil, some soap bars with one for acne, a toothpaste in a jar, Daily Immune Nectar, and Superfood Balance Bites.

At the same farmers market, I met Kelly Davis of Little River Farm in Abbeville, SC. She sells handmade all natural goat milk soap bars for the last six years. She happened to be out of the lavender scent but I sniffed the other natural scents such as peppermint, charcoal/tea tree, frankincense/patchouli, lemongrass/cinnamon. I purchased the Peppermint Lip Balm, and the Tallow and Shea Sugar Scrub, because at my age I can’t seem to exfoliate enough.
